UNCONDITIONAL LOVE

You don’t know my story, and I don’t know yours, but we both have one. Our past experiences and exposures have helped form the person we are today. However, we are not defined by what happened to us, instead by what we do. Examine how you are engaging the world today.

Brothers and sisters, no one can change the past but, we are all responsible for our actions today.

The person you are today, right now, in this moment is who I am commanded to love. My love for you is not based on your past. It’s not based on what you have, what you look like, what you drive, nor where you live.

My love for you is based on the fact that I love my Father in Heaven, who sent His only Son, to die in the pardon of my sins, and His greatest command is that we love one another.

John 13:34. “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another”

This command is not predicated on anyone’s race, status, beliefs, or even their behavior. Love one another period! I know, I get it, there are people who make it difficult to like them, let alone love them. Yes, there are certain behaviors that make it difficult to like everything a person does. So, we love the person, and pray for their behavior. This is unconditional love. Jesus encourages people to practice compassion over condemnation.

We must separate WHO they are from WHAT they do.

“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

Matthew 7:1-2

This post made me think about the shape of the heart, especially the emoji that is so frequently stickered on posts, threads, photos. It is always right side up, never upside down. I take that to mean love should always be filling up, not emptying out. Think about it!
